Xiangxi is one of China’s most mysterious mountain regions, home to the Miao and Tujia ethnic minority groups. Located in northwestern Hunan, its terraced rice paddies climb the hillsides, while thousand-year-old towns rest quietly in the valleys. This is where our story begins.
When Wei opened her stall in Leeds’ Kirkgate Market in 2023, she carried that family craft thousands of miles - from the mountains of Xiangxi to the heart of Leeds. Using family recipes passed down through generations, she turned a small market stall into a way for people to experience the soul of Xiangxi through food and homemade chilli sauces.
Today, every jar of Taste of Xiangxi chilli sauce is the result of that close mother-daughter partnership: a lifetime of intuition in one pair of hands, and a clear vision to share it with the world in the other. It is food rooted in family and heritage - made not only to add heat and flavour to your cooking, but to turn simple meals into moments worth remembering.

Taste of Xiangxi Street Food launched in 2023 at Leeds Kirkgate Market as a regional Chinese food stall, born from Wei’s craving for the true flavours of home.
Wei grew up in a Miao family where every meal felt like a small celebration. In Xiangxi, spice is comfort, courage, and company all at once – a little heat in the bowl means warmth in the heart.
